Isabelle Adjani began at the Comédie Franaise in 1972 and thanks to television she quickly accessed to stardom. That year she played with Robert Hossein`s company in Federico Garcia Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba with Annie Ducaux. A co-production with the Comédie Française, the show was a hit and was restaged as well at the Théâtre de l'Odéon. Within a few years Adjani was one of the company’s stars, playing in productions of Molière and Giraudoux.
She made her auspicious debut on the big screen playing the rebellious young girl in Claude Pinoteau’s La Gifle (1974) and immediately became the hottest young actress in French cinema. She quickly starred for François Truffaut in The Story of Adèle H. (1975), a performance that earned her the first of two nomination for the best actress Oscar. Adjani is a five-time winner of the César Award for Best Actress. She won for Possession (1981), One Deadly Summer (1983) Camille Claudel(1988), La Reine Margot (1994) and Skirt Day (2009), making her the only actress or actor to have five wins in the acting categories. Her second Oscar nomination for Camille Claudel, made her the first French actress to receive two nominations and also the only actress in history to receive two nominations for non-English-language roles. CLAUDE GAGNON, recognized Quebecois film director, declares inaugurated the 40th Montreal World Film Festival, at Theatre Imperial. Serge Losique, founder and director of the festival, previosly presented the event.
Despite the shadows and questions around the Festival's fate a huge crowd was waiting for Serge Losique at the Imperial August 25 at 7.00pm for the official opening of the 40th edition (the toughest since the hotel and cinema partnerships fell at the last minute).
Nevertheless guests of the festival were flocking on the red carpet, with elegant attire, waiting for the late Jury (some of them were late at the airport) and the complete cast and crew of Kiss me Like a Lover by Andre Forcier (a very spectacular world premiere, with a 5 minutes applause session at the end). In our opinion the film should be a crowd pleaser by all means on the candian launch september 16.
